NurseCompetency is pleased to announce the release of our Mammography Technologist Competency Exam.
Mammography technologists, also called mammographers, are registered radiology technologists who are trained in the operation of specialized imaging equipment that pinpoints abnormal breast tissue. The mammography machine is designed to image only breast tissue and uses lower doses of radiation than a conventional x-ray machine. The machine has one compression paddle that flattens each breast and spreads the breast tissue. Because of this technique, a better image using less radiation can be obtained.
The Mammography Technologist Competency Exam covers topics related to breast anatomy, screening and diagnostic mammography, patient positioning for standard mammographic views, breast cancer statistical and prevalence data, standards surrounding the performance of mammography, and additional knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for successful job performance by a mammography technologist.
NurseCompetency would like to thank our Subject Matter Experts, Clinical Advisory Board, and Director of Clinical Education for working diligently over the past several months on the development and validation of this exam.

NurseCompetency is pleased to announce the release of our Histotechnologist Competency Exam.
Histotechnologists are members of the allied healthcare team specializing in the use of histologic technology in order to assist in diagnosing diseases, to conduct research, or to instruct others in histologic science. Histologic technology is the science that deals with the structure of cells and their formation into tissues and organs; it centers on the detection of tissue abnormalities and the treatment for the diseases that cause the abnormalities.
Histotechnologists prepare very thin slices of human, animal, or plant tissue and uses chemicals and dyes in order to distinguish tissue structures. Working in today’s histology lab, the histotechnologist frequently uses immunohistochemistry and molecular (DNA) techniques to provide accurate tumor identification which helps the provider to select the mode of therapy that will offer the greatest probability of a cure. Tissue sample preparation also assists the provider in determining whether a patient is rejecting a transplanted tissue or organ. A histotechnologist can also teach, be a laboratory supervisor, or be the director for a school for histotechnology. Certification is strongly preferred by many employers in this field.
The Histotechnologist Competency Exam covers topics related to cell morphology, fixative solutions, paraffin embedding, microtomy, staining techniques, immunohistochemical methods, general chemistry principles, and additional knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for successful job performance by a histotechnologist.
NurseCompetency would like to thank our Subject Matter Experts, Clinical Advisory Board, and Director of Clinical Education for working diligently over the past several months on the development and validation of this exam.
