Vascular Sonography Competency Exam
On May 20, 2013 in

by
Joseph Caracci
NurseCompetency is pleased to announce the release of our Vascular Sonography Competency Exams.
Vascular technologists, also known as vascular sonographers, assist providers in the diagnosis of disorders that affect blood flow. They listen to the blood flow in the arteries and veins to check for abnormalities in the vascular system (excluding the heart). Vascular technologists use a wide variety of instruments, commonly involving ultrasonic technology, to non-invasively obtain and record information concerning blood vessel anatomy and physiology.
The Vascular Sonography Competency Exam covers topics related to the scanning of vascular structures, anatomy, waveforms, measurements, calculations, flow patterns, pressure gradients, and additional knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for successful job performance by a vascular technologist.
NurseCompetency would like to thank our Subject Matter Experts, Clinical Advisory Board, and Director of Clinical Education for working diligently over the past several months on the development and validation of this exam.

Never Stop Improving: The Importance of Nurse Competency
On March 20, 2013 in
NurseCompetency
by

A recent report stated that patients often judge the quality of nursing care in a facility as being at the skill level of the least experienced and competent nurse. Take a moment to let that statement soak in, and think of the nurse on your unit to whom this applies. Is that nurse a brand new graduate? A nurse who graduated long ago and swore never to study again? Might this nurse be one who takes every possible opportunity to learn and grow, soaking up new education like a thirsty sponge and demonstrating excellent patient care?
